Jay B. R. Wokky Ch. 32.5 — Eli’s Second Wish

Ch. 32.5 —  Eli gasped. How had the old man known about his three wishes?
His heart sank. Eli only had two wishes left. If he used one today, he’d only have one left. On the other hand, he couldn’t bear the thought of the man being torn apart and devoured by savage beasts. Eli had said he would use his wishes in a life or death situation.
Whatever was crashing through the brush was getting closer and closer. A burble sounded, and then another. Bandersnatches! Eli’s heart began to pound.
Even worse, a strange rumbling in the distance was getting louder. The ground trembled. The light dimmed. What was it? A whole herd of bandersnatches?
“Please,” the old man said.
“Oh, well,” Eli thought. “I’ve lived my life without magic wishes so far.” Aloud he said, “What’s your name?”
“They call me Old Bob.”
Eli pointed at the man and spoke loudly. “I wish that Old Bob was free of his restraints.”
Pop! Eli put out his hand and walked forward. The barrier was gone. The ropes binding Old Bob untied themselves and slithered away from him. Old Bob collapsed onto the grass, and Eli rushed towards him. The rumbling grew louder. The ground shook, but with Eli’s help Old Bob managed to get to his feet.
Just then two giant bandersnatches burst into the clearing. Eli whirled to face them.
“No time to fight,” yelled the cat. “Run!”
