Already we are halfway through October, and you know what that means: November is National Novel Writing Month! This means that thousands of people will attempt to write a book of at least 50,000 words in a single month. There are no prizes (unless you want to order the cool t-shirts). The reward is the writing itself – the incredible experience of creation.
Think about the story that is within your heart — the one that yearns to be written. No one else can write your story. Dream big! Have a blast creating your world and your main characters. Sketch out a rough plot line. You don’t need a perfect title or a beautifully edited first draft — that will come later. For now concentrate on getting the entire story out from your heart and mind to the page.
There will be distractions. See how many things you can put off or reassign. Schedule a time each day just for your writing. Turn off the TV, ignore social media, and write! You can keep track of your word count each day on the free NaNoWriMo website: https://nanowrimo.org
As the month draws to a close and you write the words “The End,” you will experience the satisfaction that comes from completing a story.
So, who will take the challenge to write a novel in a single month? Are you in?
