Jay B. R. Wokky Ch. 45.2 — The Princes Repent

Ch. 45.2 – Janine leaned on the fence and watched as the three pigs woke up, groggy and disoriented. They moaned about their bruises and headaches, and then looked around them, confused.
“Where are we?” said one pig.
Jay, who was curled in the wide space outside the pen, grinned, and a wisp of smoke curled from his nostrils. “Barbecued pork ribs. Mmmmm. Marinated pork loin with garlic and apples, slow cooked over coals.”
The three pigs squealed, ran to the farthest corner of their pen, and huddled together.
“We’re doomed,” said one of the pigs.
Janine folded her arms. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t let him eat you.”
The three pigs squinted at her, their noses sniffing. “She understands us!” They muttered to each other for a moment. “It’s that ugly princess. The one who lives with the dragon. We really are doomed.”
Then the pigs trotted forward, fell to their knees, and bowed before her.
“Princess Janine,” said the largest pig. “We beg you to spare our lives. We are not really pigs. I am Prince –.”
Janine interrupted him. “We know who you are. The last time you came up here, you planned to kill my dragon. You insulted me, and you cruelly beat and wounded my Jubjub bird. I think Jay is showing great restraint by not flaming you right here and now.”
Matthew bowed his head. “We apologize, Princess. We are sorry for everything.”
“How are they doing?” Ezra walked into the cave and stood beside Janine.
The pigs turned to him. “Forgive us, Ezra. Forgive us.”
“What are they saying?” asked Ezra. Janine translated.
Ezra pretended to consider it. “These men are traitors. They deserve death.”
The pigs squealed in terror again. One of the pigs collapsed in a faint.
“However,” said Ezra. “I am willing to forgive them, if they will change their ways.”
Janine sighed dramatically. “You’re right. I guess Jay will have to have roast mutton tonight.”
“Perhaps tomorrow night?” Jay said hopefully.
Matthew looked at Ezra. “I was so angry all the time. I couldn’t seem to stop.”
Janine translated, and Ezra nodded. “You’re forgiven. You’d been eating troll poisons meant to keep you angry.”
Janine told the princes everything that had happened, and how they were planning to go to war against the trolls. “I plan to feed you a tea made from Tum-Tum bark that will cause rapid growth. You three will become a great asset to our army.”
“Can’t you change us back to human?” asked Mark.
Janine shook her head. “I’m afraid not. So far, Zelda’s magic has proven to be extremely difficult to overthrow. It will take months of research. It might even be permanent.”
“Permanent?” Matthew shrieked. “What about my wife and son?”
“Your wife and son are missing,” said Janine.
Matthew squealed in anguish. Then he stood up, a new fire in his eyes. “When do we leave?”
