Jay B. R. Wokky Ch. 41.3 — Zelda Gets her Revenge

Ch 41.3 – Zelda frowned at Janine, puzzled. “Why aren’t you dead?” She walked up to Janine, yanked off her mask, and ground it under her heel, stomping on it and muttering. The mask shriveled and blackened as if burned.
Then Zelda slapped Janine across the face. “No one gets to be more beautiful than I.”
Janine collapsed to the floor, breathing hard. She took the ruined mask in her hands and tenderly brushed her fingers along its length. She looked up at Zelda with tears in her eyes. “How did you know it was me?”
Zelda’s face twisted into a sneer. “Did you think your pathetic disguise would really fool me? Your scent is all over this cave, not to mention the stink of your dog. But never mind that. I’ve come to claim what is rightfully mine. Take me to the Sleeping Prince.”
“Won’t he have frozen too?”
Zelda laughed scornfully. “I’m no amateur.”
Janine thought frantically, trying to find anything that would stall her. “What about the other girl? There was supposed to be someone coming with you.”
“Sorry, there’s only little old me left. All the girls in the kingdoms have had their chance to wake the sleeping prince. They failed. I am the one who will succeed.”
“But what happened to your companion?”
Zelda tapped her foot in annoyance. “Really, Janine, it’s best to not ask about the details. I know how much blood upsets you. Now, stop stalling and take me to the prince. By the king’s decree, it is my right. Besides, do you really want him to die?”
Janine slowly got to her feet. She slipped the ruined mask into her apron pocket. Her cheek stung where Zelda had slapped her, but her heart hurt even more. There was no escape. Zelda had defeated them all, even the mighty dragon.
