Jay B. R. Wokky Ch. 28.4 — Eli Confesses

Ch 28.4 –Ezra sneaked into Eli’s bedroom and punched him in the face.
“Wake up, you liar.”
Eli shot up from his bed and looked wildly around the room. When he saw Ezra, he sagged. “Oh, it’s you. What are you doing, coming in here and punching me in the middle of the night?” Eli rubbed his nose. “Ow.”
He sat back down and patted the bed, but Ezra didn’t sit down beside him.
“You lied to me.”
“I did? What about?” Eli sighed. “Ezra, I’m a little busy right now for puzzles. My betrothed is coming here soon, and I’ve been trying to get rooms cleaned and servants arranged, and the food ordered for a great feast, and on top of all that, I feel sick all the time. My stomach hurts, and my head aches.”
Ezra didn’t back down. He glared at his brother. “Did you or did you not kill the dragon, Jay B. R. Wokky?”
Eli looked miserable. He slumped down on the bed. “Oh, Ezra. I wanted to tell you, but Matthew threatened me. He promised to make me disappear if I even breathed a word of the truth. As in, permanently disappear. As in, dead.”
“So what really happened?”
Eli sighed and told him the truth. “Will you forgive me?”
“I guess. But don’t ever lie to me again. You’ve always been the brother I could count on.”
“I won’t. You don’t know how hard it’s been ever since. And what am I going to do?”
“Do? The first thing you’re going to do is tell Father the truth. A dragon, whether he’s a good or bad dragon, is a security risk. You can’t just keep hiding and think he will go away. And Princess Janine’s parents need to know she’s still alive.”
“But Matthew…”
“Matthew is sometimes an idiot. His pride needs to be taken down a few notches. I’ll assign some of my friends to watch over you in case he tries something.”
