Today I thought I’d give you another puppy update. Rocky (a West Highland Terrier) is now seven and a half months old. He’s over the biting stage, and he now goes to the door and barks to go outside and pee. Yeah!!!! You can’t believe how happy I am about that! He knows quite a few of the basic commands, though we are still working on a long stay. Heel will take a bit longer as well. He is so adorable when he shakes hands or dances. His favorite toy is a long tailed ‘squirrel’ with a squeaky rubber football inside. Rocky loves to play fetch and tug with the squirrel. He also loves to play in the water. When I have the hose out and am watering the plants, Rocky dances in and out of the water stream, leaping in the air and trying to catch it. He looks like he is having the time of his life. When I pick up his leash and say, ‘Want to go for a walk?’ he wags his tail and gets very excited. Rocky knows that at least part of the time, we’ll be going down to my friend’s house, where he will get to see his best friend, Lilly, who is a Shih tzu. I take him in to get groomed once in a while, but I have to admit that I kind of like his usual scruffy look. He also likes to lie under my desk by my feet and sleep while I write. Rocky has turned into a fun little companion.
