I started listing all the books I’ve read in the past six months, and I am surprised at how many there are. My husband teases me that the only people who call the house are salesmen, my sister, and the library informing me that my books are in. I have to sheepishly admit that I really do read a lot. Do I read too much? Well, I can’t admit that, can I? A good majority of the books I have read and all the ones I have enjoyed are on the Goodreads website, if you want to see what has kept me up late at night.
I love to read! I love the adventure of finding new worlds and new friends, all only a page away. I think I know the characters of my favorite books better than I do the real people in my life. There is something so satisfying in getting to the end of a good story and having everything turn out for the main character. Perhaps some of that is because in real life, our story keeps going on and on through good and bad times, messy, unpredictable, sometimes painful, ending finally with death. Something within us craves the well-defined beginning, middle, and end of a good book: a hero we can relate to, the slow reveal of character, the changes they go through, the growth they make, and finally, a happy ending. We understand ourselves better after reading a well-written story. So here’s to a good book. Read one tonight, and enjoy!
